/Saturday Golf
Graham Wyte’s (15) impressive consistency paid dividends last Saturday, winning the Men’s Stableford event on count-back over Peter Jones (16). Both players recorded a better than handicap score of 40 points. In third place was Ron Schultze (23) who returned 39 points despite some tough health issues.
In the Ladies event, Jean Youl (28) scaped in ahead of the also consistent Rhonda Willoughby (24), 39 points to 38 points. Michelle Dillon finalizing the minor placings with 37 points.
In the Men’s event, Wyte was most impressive, keeping poor iron play to a minimum and looked to be well in charge after a fine birdie on the par 3 thirteenth hole, before falling back to the field with a double bogy on the final hole. Jones played well on the front nine which included a birdie on the par 3 ninth hole, but lost ground after two double bogies on the back nine.
Despite Youl’s miss on the sixth hole, the Ladies winner was able to regroup over the back nine to deny Willoughby who was terrific through the first fifteen holes.
John Murphy and Terry Turvey completed the ball pool. The best round of the day was an eleven over par 82 by Graham Wyte.
Nearest to the pins: Graham Wyte (3rd), Meryl Cameron (5th), Chris Gray (9th), Graham Wyte- Superpin (13th), Phil Lloyd (16th). Geoff Williams won the pen.
This Saturday’s event is the Monthly Medal.
Thursday Golf
A double bogy, bogy finish by Gary Thorne (7) on Thursday 29 August marred a terrific round of golf, falling from being one under the card after sixteen holes, to a disappointing two over par 73. Despite the poor ending, Thorne easily won the Stableford competition with 41 points. Frank Cianci (24) was second on count-back with 38 points and would be disappointed after failing to score on the opening two holes. Phil Lloyd (9) was third while Ken Williams (21) completed the ball pool,
