/Thursday Golf 25th June
An interesting day for our R & R golfers not only was the weather great but the boys were all beaten by the youngest in the field, 11 year old Olive Spitty (9) played a great round of golf to win easily with 38 pts.
On the front nine consistent golf saw her turn with only 3 bogies to her name and she did the same on the back nine to have only 78 off the stick which almost had her beating her father. He had the best stroke score of the day with a 77, I don’t think, it will be long before Olive has got her dads measure on the golf course, well done Olive.
Runner up for the day went to Wayne Cook (20) on 35 pts and he did make the statement at presentations that he is back in form so we will just have to wait until next week to see if his words are true. Others in the ball pool were Gary Thorne (4) and Geoff Williams (17) both on 33 and Joey Tartaglia (16) missed out on a count back.
Nearest the pins went to Gary Thorne on the 3rd and 16th, Joe Tartaglia on the 5th , Graham Wyte on the 9th and Geoff Williams on the 13th.
Thursday golf is open to all golfers so those wanting to play be at the clubhouse at 12:15 and put your name in.
Saturday Golf 27th June
On a glorious day for golf we had our biggest winter field that I can ever remember with nearly sixty golfers taking on the course. The coronavirus maybe a pain at times but with no footy it’s been great to see so many people use our golf course.
The winner in a tight Men’s section was Gary Thorne (4) with 37 pts to edge out Logan Keighran (3) and Geoff Williams (17) both on 36. The Ladies was won by a visitor from Lalbert in Jess Worner (39) with a magnificent 42pts and runner up was our former multiple club champ Marlene Orr (17) on 36 pts.
Those in the ball pool were Joel Robertson (19) 35, Katelyn Wright (33), Chris Waterson (5) and Andrew Spitty (+1) all on 34, Ross Nesbit (12), Gavin Teasdale (11), Ned Pay (15), Carol Dear (24) and Chris Gray (12) all on 33 pts.
The best stroke score of the day was Andrew Spitty with 72 and Lorraine Bray had a day she would rather forget, to win the pen.
Best shots on the par 3’s, Michael Runciman on the 3rd, Roger Pay the 5th, Jess Worner the 9th, Phil Lloyd on the 16th and Ned Pay won the money on the 13th.
Just a reminder to all players to please repair plug marks on the greens and fill your divots on the fairways. Some of us are getting a bit lazy, so please do these things and it will help to keep our course in the great nick it is currently in.
On Sunday (5th July) we will hold a 3P Ambrose, so get your names into the Captain for that. Also, I hear that the President might be making a come back soon, so golfers look out for wayward golf balls when he is on the course because it has been a while and he may have forgotten how to hit it straight.
Hope to see you all there this weekend and as the boxing trainer said to his boxer that was behind in his fight, just keep swinging surely one of them will connect!
Ladies Golf – Wednesday July 1st
Our magnificent captain celebrated her birthday today, joining 17 other lady golfers to compete for the monthly medal. Captain Michelle had a challenging day with computer issues, magpie attacks and a fairly ordinary rendition of happy birthday!
The amazing Rhonda Willoughby played a sensational round to win the July monthly medal with 94 – 13 – 71. Runner up was the Benalla Bushranger Jo Martin with 73. She also won the putting comp with a handy 29 putts.
Carol Dear 74, Chrissy Downs 75, Nola Robinson 77 and Barbara Barnes 77 all featured in the ball pool. Joyce Boyd collected the Chino’s coffee voucher for NTP on the 9th.
As seems to be the norm lately there were lots of players vying for the pen award Jan Harry was the lucky recipient.
See you all next Wednesday for a stableford round at 9.30 for 10am.
