13th November Results
/Thursday Golf
R &R day saw a good field of 22 golfers enjoy the course and get some more practise for the
last round of club championships. Good to have Greg Gin back from holidays overseas and Tony
Laughlin back from injury into the field also and visitors from Murrabit and Berri Willock. This day’s
winners was Lachlan Gillies (28) on a count back from Ken Williams and the inform Col Wilkie all on
37 pts. On 36 pts were Tony Laughlin (12) and Greg Gin (16) both on 36 pts and with 34 pts was Rob
Fabry and our most consistent Thursday golfer Geoff Williams. The best of them off the par threes
were 3 rd Poddy Free, 5 th Poddy Free (for the 3 rd time in a row), 9 th Joe Tartaglia, 13 th Ron Thouliss and 16 th Tony Laughlin. We also had a match in our Ian Westland 4BB knock out with Joe T and Greg Gin beating Don Ross/Graham Wyte 4/2.
Saturday Golf
On another windy day, which we seem to be getting every golf day, 44 golfers braved the
elements to test their skills against mother nature. The hottest player on the circuit now, Col Wilkie
(15), had another good day with a score of 39 pts to win on c/b from Poddy Free (18). In the ball pool
was Poddy Free, Don Ross (11) 38, Meryl Cameron (16) 38, Rob Fabry (23) 36, David Gray (18), Casey
Gillen (22), Gary Pay (17) all on 35 and Gray Thorne on 34. Nearest the pins were 3 rd Poddy Free, 5 th Gary Pay, 9 th Andrew Spitty, 13 th Super Pin Don Ross and the 16 th to Blake Shay. In the ladies’ section our youngest golfer Olive Spitty won with 38 pts on a count back from Meryl Cameron and Olive is currently playing at Toowoomba GC in the Under 12 State School Sports so all the best to her from the Kerang GC for this week.
Club Championships
In the last round of club Championships Andrew Spitty went into it with a 9-shot lead and
increased that to 12 shots to win from Gary Thorne who has now come runner up for the seventh
time. B Grade winner was Col Wilkie coming from behind to win by 2 shots from our 2 nd round leader Peter Hall and C Grade winner was Casey Gillen leading from start to finish to win by a huge 43 shots from the luckless Lindsay Hogg.
Spitty played the steadiest of the final group of golfers in the wind to score over the 3 rounds with 81-74-77= 232 and Gary Thorne could not quite handle the conditions over the 3 rounds with 82-85-79=246 this was Andrew Spitty’s 5 th title overall and his first in 5 years.
In B Grade Peter Hall lead after the first 2 rounds but could not hold back the red hot form of Col
Wilkie who flew home in the last 2 rounds to win 95-80-83=258 to win by 2 from Peter Hall 82-88-
90=260 and C Grades Casey Gillen playing very consistent golf with 94-98-94=286 trounce the field
to beat Lindsay Hogg 114-109-106=329. Other trophy winners were NDGA Medallist Peter Hall
Winter Cup Paul Goodson, Summer Cup Jarrad Walker, Matt Colville Medallist of the Year Poddy
Free and the Charlie Nesbit Trophy for the best nett score over the 3 rounds was Col Wilkie with 210
nett.
Don’t forget Twilight golf has started so any one can play just turn up and hit off between 4
&and 6 pm for an enjoyable nine holes of golf.
The Laughie 4BBB is on the 24 th November so put your name down for a good days golf.
All players in this event must have a current golf handicap.
On Sunday we had a great Groove on the Green attended by over 130 people in perfect weather to enjoy the music of Lachy Sommerville and the Brothers from Bendigo and food from the Wood Box in Kerang and Table for Twelve with Orange Door Catering from Swan Hill and by all comments this is a must see event if you’ve never been before.
Ladies Golf
12 ladies played in very windy conditions again, with Mandy Ackland winning with 35 points from Meryl Cameron on 33points. Ball Pool saw Ruth McAlister & Michelle Dillon on 32 points, the prestigious pen award went to Joyce Boyd. NTP Chino’s 9th hole was Rhonda Willoughby & June’s 3rd Hole went to Michelle Dillon. Next week’s starting time will be earlier with assembly at 8.30am for a 9am hit off. Volunteers are still needed for the Xmas Stocking raffle Roster.
