15th January 2020
/Thursday Golf We had a small but quality field on Thursday for our R & R golfers and the best for the day was a visitor from Murrabit in Rob Harman (21) on a count back from Rob Fabry with a good score of 39 pts. Rob hasn’t been around for a while so it was good to see him back and in the winners circle. The nearest the pins went to on the 3 rd Olive Spitty, 5 th Rob Fabry, 9 th Doug Ellwood, 13 th Phil Lloyd and on the 16 th another one to Olive Spitty. The ball pool consisted of Rob Fabry (22) 39, someone who always seems to be in the ball pool, Geoff Williams (18) on 38 and young Olive Spitty (10) also on 38 pts. Wayne Harman (20) from Murrabit was lucky enough to win the pen and Olive Spitty had the best stroke score of the day with 79 off the stick. Saturday Golf 41 golfers plus 2 others putting in cards for handicaps turned up on Saturday to enjoy good weather and good company for an enjoyable day of golf and play for the Greenwood Mugge. The pen award this day went to Spud McKerrow and the best stroke score belonged to Andrew Spitty, with a one over the card score of 72. Nearest the pins for the day went to, on the 3 rd Ross Nesbit, 5 th Michelle Dillon (who broke the cardinal rule of beating the captain), 9 th Doug Meehan from Lalbert, superpin 13 th Red Manners and the 16 th was won by Joel Robertson. Ladies winner for Saturday was Olive Spitty (10) carrying on her good form from Thursday with 36 pts on a countback from Jenny Waterson (22). In the ball pool we had on 41 pts Bryan Livingston (19), Jack Hewitt (16 good to see him back) 40, on 38 pts Bruce Wright (18), Max Wilson (16) and Roger Pay (15), and 4 players on 37, were Chris Waterson (9), Red Manners (8), Maurice Meehan (18) from Lalbert and “again” Geoff Williams (18). Men’s winner was our evergreen golfer in Tony Laughlin (12) with a casual 42 pts. Tony started off with a double, but pars on 2,3,5,6 and 8 a birdie on 7 and a bogie on 4 and 9 got him off to a good start and 5 pars in a row on the back nine had him tracking to a very good score but going 3 over in the last 4 holes put a bit of a damper on what would have been a great day on the course. Up and coming events. The Autopro 4 person Ambrose is on Sunday 26 th of January and is open to golfers and non-golfers, could members please bring a plate this day. Summer Pennant starts 9 th of February and is open to both men and women so please put your names down on the sheet in the club house. Premier league starts again on the 15 th of January and it is very close at the top with only 4 pts separating 1 st and 4 th. Only 4 rounds remaining so its anyone’s at the moment. The course fairways are a bit dry at the moment but it only because of a lack of water and once we get a bit more allocation we can only water the tees and greens which are looking a picture right now so here’s hoping for more allocation soon. Thursdays Winner Rob Harman and Greenwood Mugge Winner Tony Laughlin Ladies Golf – Wednesday January 15th There were some very red faces in the clubhouse following Ladies golf this week… some from the heat and some from embarrassment, but everyone enjoyed the Chino’s stableford round. Jean Youl has revitalised her game with only one lesson! She was the pen recipient last week and the winner today with some very steady golf and 36 points. Runner up was the ever-consistent Michelle Dillon and the Benalla bandit Joanne Martin snuck into the ball pool. Michelle and Jo also snagged a nearest the pin each. Next week golf is 8.30 for 9. Don’t forget the AutoPro Ambrose event coming up on Saturday 25th for Australia Day. Always a fun day!
