Men’s Report

Hello to our golf members and what a second half of a season it’s been. All things ran along beautifully until the Covid – 19 virus hit our shores and basically shut down golf, but anyway let’s talk about the golf we did play. First up I’ll give my thanks to the people that have helped me over the last twelve months and they are firstly the committee for allowing me to be Captain again, Chris Waterson, Peter Jones and Graham Wyte for filling in for me in the office when I was away, my Match Committee of Chris, Peter, Terry Turvey and Michelle Dillon for their ideas and help during the year and Gary Thorne for his help for our Par 3 Day. A big thank you also to Dennis Nield for all his work in the office on the computer, for me and for getting everything in the paper. Unfortunately our pennant sides this year didn’t fare to well this year and it was the first time for a while that we didn’t have any teams in the finals in summer or winter pennant for a while.

Our club Championships that were played in October and November we reasonably well attended but there are still a lot of players not playing. I would like to see more people playing in them. Congratulations to the winners, Andrew Spitty - Club Champion, Andrew also won the Pat McKnight Trophy so he has had another good year, our President Terry Turvey - B Grade Champ and a new player to the club Ryan Gill winner in C Grade from equal r/ups John Murphy and Doug Ellwood. I must give my congrats to young Olive Spitty in winning her first club Championships and also equalling the course record for Ladies and setting the course record for Ladies members with a score of 73 during the year, for an 11 year old playing off as low as 4 she has had a big year and got a bright future in front of her.

As mentioned earlier 2020 has been quiet due to the virus but when they locked the borders and the Swan Hill players came to play here it was great to have over 80 players on our course on a Saturday. Before closing off my biggest thanks goes to Tony Laughlin and David Drake and their band of volunteers for all the work that they do to present the course as well as they do every Saturday. It’s a credit to them and the comments we get from visitors is testament to their work.

In ending, thank you all for the year and hopefully we will be back to normal sooner rather than later.

Greenwood Mugge Day and the man to say away from for the next month is our Captain Scott Harry (15) who won the day on a countback from two others all on 39 points. In the ball pool was Shane Dibsdale (12) and Gav Teasdale (12) both on 39, Dave Conlan (21) 38, John Murphy (24) and Peter Hall (15) on 37, Ross Nesbit (13) 36, Casey Gillen (22) back in form after his shocker on Thursday with 35 and Joel Robertson (18) who is still in form got the last ball with 34 pts. The Ladies winner of the Goblet for the next 4 weeks is Lorraine Bray (28) with 35 points too just pip Nola Robinson (33) on 33. We are looking into online tee booking so be alert as word will be out soon and if we can go down this path everyone can book a tee time from home which will make it easier for all of us.
