/Ladies Golf – Wednesday November 4th
A cool cloudy day provided the perfect conditions for the third and final round of the Ladies Club Championships.
Olive Spitty (4) played a beautiful round to become our new Club Champion with a total of 237. What a fantastic achievement for this talented 11 year old! Her family and the whole club are very proud of her. Michelle Dillon (8) was runner up with 249.
The hotly contested B grade was interesting to watch with some brilliant play… and quite a few very ‘creative’ shots included by all players. I believe there was even a swooshing fresh air shot included in one round! Deaniee Henderson (21) and Jenny Waterson (19) both came in on top with 279. It’s always exciting to have a play off and a curious crowd followed the girls down the first fairway, where Deaniee finished victorious with a match saving shot out of the tree line. Congratulations to Deaniee who has been in hot form recently and well done to Jen too.
The C grade girls also had a close finish with Lorraine Bray (29) excitedly accepting her winners trophy with 318, followed by Chrissy Downs (30) with 320.
The best net score over the championships went to Shirley Jenner with 209.
The daily event was Monthly Medal and this was won by Jan Harry (16) who was back in form with a fabulous 69 net. She wins the much sought after Medallist shirt and led quite a few members astray after golf to celebrate! The ball pool included Megan Taylor 69, Deanne Free 69, Nola Robinson 70 and Geraldine Kennedy 70. Putting prize went to Shirley Jenner with 26 and Nearest the Pin went to Jenny Waterson with a beautiful shot on her last hole – the 9th to claim the Chino’s voucher. The super consistent Carol Dear surprised everyone when she received the precious pen award – probably her first ever!
Thanks to everyone for all your support over the championships and we look forward to stableford round next Wednesday. See you there!
Tuesday Golf
Because of the public holiday we had a stableford day and 24 golfers turned up to play golf and watch the cup afterwards. The clear winner for the day was our captain Scott Harry (15) who had 40 pts to easily beat Chris Waterson (7) on 37, try hard as he could, Chris couldn’t quite keep up with the accurate chipping and putting of Scott. The others in the ball pool were Terry Turvey (13) also on 37, Deaniee Henderson (21) and Logan Keighran (2) both on 34. Our nearest the pin winners were Chrissy Downs on the 3rd, Captain Scott on 5th, 9th and 16th and Deaniee got the money on the 13th.
After the round we went inside to watch Jye McNeil win the cup on Twilight Payment.
Thursday Golf
Alan Free (18) who hasn’t been in the winners circle for a while managed to defeat Graham Wyte (11) on a countback to take home the trophy with 36 points. Those in the ball pool were Graham, Gary Thorne (4) and Tony Laughlin (10) both on 35 pts. The best on the par 3’s were Chris Waterson on the 3rd and 13th, Graham Wyte the 5th, Doug Meehan on the 9th and Gary Thorne on the 16th.
Saturday Golf
The last round of our club champs was also our Monthly Medal day and Gav Teasdale (13) had a day out to win the Monthly Medal by 3 from Chris Waterson (6) who had to settle for R/up for the second time this week. Gav had 81 – 13 = 68 to Chris’ 77 – 6 = 71.
The last round of the Les Jobling Shield for the Ladies and the winners for the day was Shirley Jenner (24) with an impressive 37 pts to beat Jen Waterson (19) on 34. The overall winner of the trophy was Deaniee Henderson (21) who had 104 pts over the 3 rounds and R/up was Shirl Jenner on 100.
The ball pool for the day were Chris Waterson, Doug Ellwood (22), Terry Turvey (13), Peter Hall (15), Blake Shay (11), Phil Lloyd (11), Scott Harry (14), Graham Wyte (11), Jenny Waterson and Jean Youl (25). The nearest the pins were Tony Laughlin on the 3rd, Col Wilkie 5th, Olive Spitty 9th, Andrew Spitty Superpin 13th and Jim Apostolelis got the16th.
Our last round of club champs saw Andrew Spitty (+1) shot a round of 77 to
go with rounds of 71 and 72 to win the Ian Laughlin Perpetual Trophy as Club Champion. In second place was Chris Waterson (6) who came from 3rd place to pass Logan Keighran (2) after a round of 77 to Logan’s 81.
Andrew’s win was probably more pleasing as his daughter Olive had won the Ladies Championship on Wednesday and they join the group of Paul and Bree Laughlin (who did it twice) and Jan and Laine Harry as parents and children who have won club Championships in the same year.
In the B Grade Terry Turvey (13) held off the Captain Scott Harry (14) to win by 2 strokes with rounds of 84 - 90 – 85 = 259.
The C Grade was won by Ryan Gill (22) with rounds of 101 – 95 – 99 = 295 to win by one shot from John Murphy (24).
The Ian Westland four ball winners were Greg Gin and Joe Tartaglia and the winner of the Matthew Colville Medallist of the Year was Scott Harry.
The Laughy 4BBB is on Sunday 22nd of November so get your names in for that as its always a good day and next week is the Greenwood Mugge so everyone get their game face on for that and get free drinks for the month.
