26th February results
/Thursday Golf
R &R day at the Kerang GC saw a winner that’s not part of the R & R club yet, but found time to play with the Oldies, god bless him!. Chris Waterson (6) made the best of the day to win with 37 pts from those in the ball pool of Phil Lloyd (8) 34, Tony Laughlin (8) 33 and Col Wilkie (15) on 32 pts. Kevin Sambrooks (19) had the stand out round to win the pen. The best on the par 3’s were on the 3 rd Chris Waterson, 5 th was to hard for everyone, 9 th Col Wilkie, 13 th went to a great shot from Doug Ellwood and the longest par 3, the 16 th, was won by one of our longest hitters in Red Manners.
Saturday Golf
Saturday golf was a good day because we had two first’s on this day. Firstly young Olive Spiity had her first “hole in one” she holed out on the ninth, with her 7 wood, much to the delight of a few of the bowlers that we watching her from their rink. The second, first was the fact that Ned Pay bought a bottle of water for the first time on the course, well done Ned. The winner for this day was Graham Wyte (12) with 38 pts. Ladies winner was the ever consistent Jenny Waterson (21)(who is quickly becoming the best golfer in her house) with 37 pts and runner up for the ladies was Olive Spitty (9) on 36. In the ball pool was Col Wilkie (15), Logan Keighran (6) both on 37, Jim Apostolelis (25) and Olive Spitty (9) on 36 and Bryan Livinston (17) on 35. Andrew Spitty had the best stroke score with 74 and old John Murphy got back from his holidays to win the Pen. Nearest the pin went on the 3 rd to Bryan Livingston, 5 th to Andrew Spitty, his daughter with the “hole in one” Olive on the 9 th , 13 th superpin to Lorraine Bray and the 16 th was won by, again Red Manners.
Our pennant side went down to Tooleybuc at Balranald to miss out on making the finals which will be played at Kerang Sunday so anyone wanting to watch tee off is 7:30am. Our Riverland par 3 day is on the 15 th of March and the IGA 4p Ambrose is on Saturday 28 th of March.
Twilight Golf
20 golfers played twilight Tuesday with the winner being Kevin Sambrooks with 35 nett and runner up was Scott Harry with 36 nett and the non golfers section was won by Andrew Lindsay. Novelty event winners were nearest the tyre second shot Curly Doyle, Longest drive Joel Gray, Nearest the line Joe Tartaglia, nearest the pin 3 rd Andrew Lindsay and no one got on the ninth.
Ladies Golf – Wednesday February 26th
A clear, calm and sunny Wednesday lulled 14 unsuspecting lady golfers into a false sense of optimism this week. The wild and woolly conditions turned out to be very challenging for many and the coveted pen was very hotly contested. Ange Giouzellis was the lucky winner, but there were quite a few who thought they would claim it for sure.
Lorraine Bray played a lovely round to claim victory this week with 36 points. Runner up was Carol Dear (32 pts) proving that a little lay off can do your golf no harm. Joyce Boyd and Mandy Ackland were in the ball pool with 31 points.
Nearest The Pin prizes were won by Joyce Boyd who played a lovely shot on 9 to claim a coffee from Chino’s and UK visitor Laura Thomas who snagged June’s ball on the 3rd.
