29th March results
/Another outstanding week of golf from the Kerang Golf Club. Mabel Spitty, younger sister of golf sensation Olive, won the ladies event last Saturday with 34 points, while her father Andrew, put on another great display with a two under par 69. Playing off +3, Andrew stormed home on the back nine holes carding a brilliant four under par and finishing with 36 points. In another dramatic situation, Ron Thouliss, a regular visitor to our Club from the small town of Berriwillock, won the Thursday competition for the first time. Ron has travelled the 98kms to Kerang for many years and has finally been rewarded for his persistence.
Ladies Golf – Wednesday March 24th
Well, there’s nothing like a drop of rain to freshen up the course. Around 42mm’s. It’s a shame the same couldn’t be said for the lady golfers this week!
With most of the 9 ladies struggling to get over 20 stableford points, it was a very surprised Joyce Boyd who won the day with 28 to take home the Chino’s voucher. Michelle Dillon had 27 and Lorraine Bray 25 to collect a ball. Michelle also claimed the nearest the pin on the 9th.
The remaining scores will remain a mystery… let’s hope next week brings a more positive day.
See you next Wednesday at 9 for 9.30!
Thursday Golf
Coolish weather, coupled with slow and sometimes wet fairways caused by recent rain, Ron Thouliss (21) battled hard against the elements to win the Stableford event on count-back from Michelle Dillon (8). While Ron struggled to gain distance from tee to green, he made up for this with great work around the greens and was solid throughout the back nine holes. Michelle Dillon started her round with three pars and while she pressed hard to play to her handicap, finishing only eleven over, just failed to match Thouliss’ better back nine score. Both players finished with 34 points.
‘Spud’ McKerrow and Ron Schultze completed the ball pool. Nearest the Pin winners: Graham Wyte (3rd), Ray Dennis (5th), Ron Thouliss (9th & 13th). John Murphy won the pen.
Saturday Golf
Lalbert Golf member, James Meehan (12) played better than handicap golf on a tough course still recovering from the weather with a sensational score of 39 points. His only real blemish came at the par 4 eighth hole, registering a double bogy. The remainder of the round was terrific, only recording three further bogies for a seven over par 78. Ross Nesbit (13) fell one point short, with 38 points, ahead of Allan Free (19) who recorded 37 points. In the Ladies, Mabel Spitty (47) won with 34 points ahead of Michelle Dillon (8) who recorded 33 points, while Deaniee Henderson (21) was third also registering 33 points.
Andrew Spitty, Gav Teasdale and Mabel Spitty completed the ball pool. Nearest the Pin winners: Gav Teasdale (3rd), Michelle Dillon (5th), Tony Laughlin (9th), Superpin: Geoff Williams (13th) and Joe Tartaglia (16th). Meryl Cameron and Maurice Meehan drew for the pen.
