Golf Report

Beautiful Autumn weather brought out the best in our golfers last week with Gary Thorne (4), Michelle Dillon (8) and Simon Shanks (17) each scoring 38 points in Thursday’s Stableford competition, with Thorne the eventual winner on count-back. Dillon (8) was again in the mix, scoring 77 off the stick, to win the Ladies Stroke competition on Saturday, while Terry Turvey (15) was back in form, firing 82 off the stick to win the Men’s Stroke Monthly Medal event.

Thursday Golf

With the greens and fairways providing excellent conditions for scoring, Gary Thorne, Michelle Dillon, and Simon Shanks produced better than handicap scores in their terrific round of 38 points each. While Thorne managed to avoid a miss on his card, finishing with an excellent 2 over par 73, Dillon struggled on the par 4 seventh hole while Shanks failed to score on the par 4 tenth hole.

Terry Turvey completed the ball pool with 35 points. Nearest the Pin winners: N/C (3rd), Terry Turvey (5th), Gary Thorne (9th & 13th), N/C (16th). Ron Schultze won the pen.

Saturday Golf

A good turn-out for the Monthly Medal event last Saturday which included visitors from Werribee Park, Kilmore, Murray Downs and Benalla. Club President, Terry Turvey played well within his handicap, scoring a net 67 to easily win April’s Medal event. Ross Nesbit (12) was second with a net score of 72, ahead of Ron Schultze (22) who also scored a net 72. 

Although Turvey struggled on the back nine holes, with a birdie on the par 5 fourteenth hole as the main highlight, his steady front nine holes was the key to his great win. Nesbit was the opposite, scoring strongly on the back nine holes after an up-and-down front nine holes. Schultze too struggled on the front nine.

In the Ladies Stroke Event, Michelle Dillon continues her great form, with a wonderful round of 77 (net 69) that included birdies on the second and sixteenth holes. Deaniee Henderson (21) was second, scoring 92 (net 71), while Jenny Waterson (18) was third with a net 78.

Gary Thorne, Peter Hall and Chris Waterson completed the ball pool. Nearest the Pin winners: Graham Wyte (3rd), Michelle Dillon (5th), Des Tudor (9th), Tony McGregor (13th), Michelle Dillon (16th).
